MedicMess Tips

  • Registering interest is not the same as purchasing a ticket; 2027 booking and fees are not yet published
  • The abstract specifications currently on the microsite relate to the 2026 cycle and must be rechecked for 2027
  • The 2027 venue is Liverpool; some travel copy on the site still describes the previous Birmingham edition
Complete guideFull MedicMess editorial briefing

RCS England's Future of Surgery Festival is a two-day national conference for medical students, resident doctors, SAS surgeons, consultants and the wider surgical team. Although branded as a festival, the published evidence describes hundreds of delegates, more than 25 hours of multi-stream conference content, major surgical and NHS speakers, a large exhibition, networking, professional-development sessions and an abstract programme. The 2027 edition is scheduled for 13–14 April at the Liverpool Experience Campus at King's Dock.

The full 2027 programme, speakers, ticket prices, CPD allocation and abstract timetable have not yet been published. The previous 2026 cycle provides a useful indication of the format: five main themes covered surgical innovation, workforce and training, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, and global and humanitarian surgery. Sessions included keynotes, panels, demonstrations, workshops, career support, poster displays and short oral presentations.

For the 2026 abstract cycle, research abstracts and case reports were accepted. Submissions were limited to 350 words plus 150 words for references, with one table and one graph permitted. All accepted work was displayed as an A0 physical poster; selected authors also delivered a five-minute oral presentation. These specifications are retained as previous-cycle guidance and should be rechecked when the 2027 call opens. Registration currently consists of a register-of-interest form, so no 2027 fees or booking deadline are yet available.
