Grants
Travel Grant and Outreach Grant calls run 7 October to 18 November 2026; Travel Grant supports Young Scientist Members with accepted abstracts and includes registration plus EUR 500 travel allowance. Outreach Grant covers registration plus up to EUR 1.3k travel/accommodation. Sepsis Award next call runs in the same window with a USD 500 prize.
Embargo
Embargo lifts 10 days before the start of ESCMID Global.
Formats
Regular research abstracts, case reports, case series up to 10 cases, Clinical Grand Rounds case submissions, and late-breaking abstracts where applicable.
Keywords
Choose two dropdown keywords plus one free keyword.
Structure
Preset abstract template. Research abstracts need background/context/objectives, methods, and original unpublished/unpresented results. Case reports/series and CGR cases should focus on unique clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment and learning points.
Word Limit
Entire abstract including title is max 350 words; word limit excludes figure descriptions and references.
Publication
Accepted abstracts are published in an open-source abstract book.
Title Rules
Concise title; capitalise only the first word except acronyms; italicise Latin terms; no final full stop; avoid brand names; ESCMID may proofread or adjust.
Author Edits
Author names and affiliations cannot be edited by the submitter after submission and are published as submitted; contact ESCMID for changes.
Author Limit
No limit on the number of abstracts by one author is stated.
Novelty Rule
Narrative reviews and abstracts lacking original data are not accepted. Encore abstracts are not accepted; partly published results need clarification and substantial new data or analysis.
Category Rule
Choose the most accurate category/subcategory; all case reports and case series are automatically category 13.
Certification
After the congress, certificate of presentation is available to presenting authors at cme.eccmid.org; presenting author disseminates to co-authors.
Eposter Flash
ePoster Flash presentations are 6 minutes including Q&A and use an uploaded ePoster rather than a slide show.
Notifications
Confirmation email goes to submitter and all co-authors; follow-up correspondence goes to presenting author. Decision letters for assigned poster presenters are sent in late January 2027; contact abstract office if no notification by end of February.
Study Designs
Study-design abstracts without original data are discouraged; trials-in-progress should use the late-breaking call if results are expected after the regular deadline.
Language Style
Use UK English, SI units, avoid all caps except abbreviations/acronyms, use generic drug names, and follow genus/species/taxonomy italics and capitalisation rules.
Edit Withdrawal
Abstracts can be saved/edited before final submission; changing abstract type requires withdrawal and new submission; no content changes after final submission.
Oral Presentation
Accepted oral abstracts may be assigned to 1- or 2-hour oral sessions with 12-minute presentations including Q&A; Clinical Case Sessions use 11-minute presentations including Q&A. PPTX is required.
Submission Window
7 October to 18 November 2026
Figures Guidelines
Up to three figures/images/graphs/tables may be uploaded in figure fields; guidelines state JPEG or PNG, max 1000x1000 pixels and max 3 MB.
Poster Requirement
Accepted poster presenters must upload an electronic poster; ePosters are visible on the virtual platform and app during congress and for six months afterwards.
Systematic Reviews
Narrative literature reviews are discouraged; systematic reviews/meta-analyses or case report/series with literature review can be accepted.
Accepted Attendance
Accepted presenters can attend onsite or online with valid registration.
Account Requirement
Submission requires an ESCMID web user/member account; ESCMID membership is not mandatory.
Current Unavailable
2027 fee table and confirmed CME/CPD points are not public. CME page currently references ESCMID Global 2026 with 33 CME points, so this was not used for 2027.
Presentation Outcomes
Accepted abstracts may be allocated to oral sessions, clinical case sessions, ePoster Flash sessions, paper poster sessions or poster sessions.
Figures Faq Discrepancy
FAQ also lists PNG, BMP, GIF, JPG/JPEG and max 4.88 MB. Store as discrepancy; guidelines page is the stricter primary rule.
Registration Requirement
Registration is not required to submit, but accepted presenting authors must register for publication and presentation.
Submitter Responsibility
Submitter is responsible for correct author names/affiliations, co-author permissions, stakeholder permissions and required consent/disclosure compliance.
