Before you book

• Who is APLS for?

  Medical, nursing, ECP, ACP, ODP or RTO staff (and physician associates) for whom APLS is relevant and who work in a relevant role. No minimum grade for doctors; prior PLS (or equivalent) strongly recommended. Source ↗

• How long is APLS and how is it run?

  A flexible one-day online component (VLE) plus a two-day face-to-face course. Assessed on clinical scenarios (airway, vascular access, illness and injury, cardiac arrest) and an MCQ. Source ↗

• How much does APLS cost?

  Cardiff and Vale (Llandough Hospital): £650 for the November 2026 course, as listed on ALSG's course dates page. Source ↗

• How long does APLS certification last?

  Certification lasts four years. Recertify on the one-day APLS Recertification course, no more than six months out of date; doctors must be ST4 or above and practising acute paediatrics regularly. Source ↗

• Does training require APLS?

  Core Surgical Training curriculum (2025): current provider status in a standard trauma course is required at final ARCP; APLS is one of the accepted courses alongside ATLS and the European Trauma Course. Source ↗
