Surgical Research Society Annual Meeting 2027

The Surgical Research Society Annual Meeting 2027 is aimed at surgeons, academic surgical trainees, medical students and researchers across surgical specialties. It takes place on 7–8 January 2027 at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Lincoln's Inn Fields, London. The official page confirms trainee research oral presentations competing for the Patey Prize and four invited speakers: Professor Alan Dardik (Farndon Lecture), Professor Tim Briggs CBE (BJS Lecture), Professor Rob Sayers (Hunterian Lecture) and Professor Colin A. Martin, President of the Society of University Surgeons, as the US sister-society guest. The meeting dinner is a black-tie event in the College Library.

Abstract submission is open through Oxford Abstracts. The public portal redirects to sign-in, so the 2027 deadline, word or character limit, structure, category list, figures and tables policy, and general author eligibility are not publicly visible. The Patey Prize rules do provide important eligibility detail: the presenter must be the principal researcher and first author; the work must not previously have been presented at a national or international meeting; and it must remain unpublished at the time of presentation. These are prize-specific requirements rather than confirmed rules for every submitted abstract. The adjacent 2026 meeting received more than 700 submissions, delivered 325 research presentations and states that those abstracts will be published in the BJS, but the publication outcome for 2027 is not yet confirmed.

The organisers state that the meeting will have RCS CPD approval, although no points total is published. Registration fees and a booking deadline are not yet visible. For trainees, the strongest confirmed value is the oral research route, national prize exposure, senior surgeon-scientist lectures and in-person networking around the two-day programme and formal dinner.
