The conference is designed to bring together researchers, practitioners and policymakers, with parallel spaces at The Venue@DMU and a planned conference dinner at Leicester Tigers.
The current theme is research-led and multidisciplinary. The latest official cycle accepted oral presentations, posters and symposium-linked abstracts, but the 2027 call is not yet published.
No 2027 student or trainee fees, bursaries or dedicated early-career route are published yet; the previous cycle included an in-person student poster prize route.
The 56th British Society of Gerontology conference is aimed at researchers, practitioners and policymakers working across ageing and later life. Its 2027 theme, “Ageing Futures: Rethinking Later Life Across Boundaries”, is built around the interaction of biological processes, identity and cognition, and social structures such as inequality, opportunity and care. The organisers explicitly invite multidisciplinary collaboration across these perspectives.
The meeting runs from 30 June to 2 July 2027 at The Venue@DMU in Leicester. The venue has multiple seminar and breakout rooms for parallel sessions, exhibition space, a private quiet space, a prayer room and disabled parking. The conference dinner is planned at Leicester Tigers. Leicester has direct trains from London St Pancras in as little as 66 minutes, coach services, M1/M69 access and a 24-hour Skylink bus from East Midlands Airport.
The organiser has not yet published the 2027 timetable, named speakers, registration fees, registration deadline, abstract deadline, abstract categories or submission portal. The latest official abstract guidance is for the closed 2026 cycle only: it used 250-word unstructured abstracts, titles of up to 30 words, no tables, diagrams or pictures, and no more than five optional references within the word count. Authors could request oral, poster or invited symposium presentation, with no more than two lead-author submissions.
For planning context only, the 2026 programme used keynote sessions, seven parallel oral blocks, a poster session, workshops, Special Interest Group sessions, a SIG marketplace and a conference dinner. These previous-cycle arrangements are useful indicators of the recurring conference format, but they are not confirmed for Leicester in 2027.
