What scores for each route

  • Internal Medicine Training CT1

Any medical meeting counts. How big the meeting is only changes how many points you get. You must be first or second author, and you must have presented by 19 Nov 2026. Papers only count if they have a PubMed ID.

  • Core Surgical Training CT1

Attending scores nothing: you must have presented it yourself. The conference must be run or accredited by a UK Royal College of Surgeons, a national or international surgical organisation, or a regional deanery, or be CPD accredited. Presentations are one of six domains, each scored A to E at interview.

  • ACCS Emergency Medicine ST1

You talk it through at a ten minute portfolio station. There is no points matrix.

  • Clinical Radiology ST1

Presentations sit in one academic section worth 4 points. An oral scores the same as a poster, and a radiology topic scores more than any other topic. The abstract has to have been peer reviewed, so invited talks do not count. You must have presented by 19 Nov 2026.

  • Ophthalmology ST1

Not yet verified for this year.

  • Paediatrics ST1

You describe your presentation in a written answer and upload nothing. Those answers only decide who gets an interview. The interview alone sets your rank.

  • Anaesthetics CT1 (incl. ACCS Anaesthetics)

Part 3 of the form was removed, so nothing you present is scored. Put the time into the MSRA instead.

  • Core Psychiatry CT1

Offers come from your MSRA score alone. There is no interview and no portfolio.

  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology ST1

There has been no portfolio since the 2016/17 round. You can only talk about research at interview.

  • General Practice ST1

GP is MSRA only. There is no interview and no portfolio.

  • Public Health ST1

Not yet verified for this year.
