STEF is IPEM's biennial flagship conference for medical physics, clinical engineering and healthcare science. The 2026 meeting is aimed at established and aspiring leaders, early-career professionals, engineers, technologists and practitioners who want a cross-sector view of workforce change, innovation and future models of care.
The two-day programme combines keynotes and plenaries with parallel streams on research and innovation, applied radiotherapy, engineering systems, safety and governance, workforce transformation and workplace culture. Day two includes an early-career forum, regulation, implementing innovation, career pathways, engineering practice, medical physics and the IPEM Woolmer Lecture. The programme also provides an exhibition, a panel on the profession in 2035 and a conference dinner.
General abstract submission is closed. A separate early-career late/breaking route invited research, projects, ideas and case studies for a supportive peer session; the published extended deadline was the end of 23 June 2026, so it is recorded as closed. IPEM requires a one-page A4 Word document using its template, with aims/background, methods, results, discussion where applicable, conclusion and keywords. The common form offers oral, poster or either as the preferred format, and presenters must register and pay if selected.
STEF runs at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. Published full-conference prices are £480 for IPEM members and £580 for non-members, including the three-course dinner; both-days attendance without dinner is £430/£515 and one-day attendance is £305/£365. The microsite also advertises one-day member attendance from £274.50 with an early-bird code but gives no cutoff date. IPEM says attendance counts towards CPD, although no formal points are stated.
