Complete guideFull MedicMess editorial briefing

FFLM's 20th Annual Conference is aimed at professionals and students working across forensic and legal medicine. It runs in Edinburgh on 7–8 May 2027 with a virtual attendance option. The theme, Bridging the Gap, covers connections and remaining gaps across healthcare, social care, policing, safeguarding and the wider justice system; the detailed programme and speakers are still being developed.

Undergraduates can submit a poster abstract by 7 March 2027. The abstract must be in English and no more than 250 words; the online form also imposes a 2,000-character limit. Entries may be individual, paired or group work and must cover general forensic medicine, sexual offence medicine, medico-legal or dento-legal medicine, forensic pathology, or the coronial system. There is no submission fee, and amendments are not allowed after the deadline.

Shortlisted poster authors are notified by 19 March and receive complimentary Saturday attendance plus reasonable UK or Republic of Ireland travel expenses, but not accommodation. Posters should be portrait, preferably A0 (841 × 1189 mm), and authors must be available beside them during refreshment and lunch breaks. A separate undergraduate prize closes on 31 January 2027 for a ready-to-submit research, audit or case-report paper; its winner receives £200 and the S R Johnson Medal and is invited to present at the annual meeting.

For two-day in-person attendance, standard prices are £468 for FFLM members and £589 for non-members; student prices are £121 and £154 respectively. Virtual two-day tickets are £421, £530, £109 and £139 across the same categories. A 21% early-booking discount is currently available with code FFLMConf21, but the organiser has not published a closing date. Gala dinner-inclusive packages are also available.
