Complete guideFull MedicMess editorial briefing

BASEM’s two-day annual conference is for clinicians and practitioners working across sport and exercise medicine, including SEM consultants and resident doctors, GPs, physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons, academic researchers, sport scientists and medical students. The programme is being built around Active Futures, Team Care and MSK Medicine, with practical workshops, spotlight talks and keynotes; advertised topics include bone stress injuries, shoulder rehabilitation, concussion, physical-activity interventions, research publishing and MSK ultrasound.

Abstracts are accepted only through two award routes: the Association Prize for postgraduate applicants and the Tom Donaldson Poster Prize for undergraduates at UK universities. Both close at 23:59 on 12 July 2026. Each abstract is limited to 250 words including headings and must use Introduction and Purpose, Material and Method, Results and Conclusion. Work must be unpublished and not previously presented in the UK. A lead author may submit up to three distinct abstracts, but each person may present only one; the presenting author must buy a two-day ticket and attend both days.

Two-day registration is £634.10 for non-members and £490.88 for BASEM, FSEM or CSEM members. The two-day undergraduate rates are £224.07 for non-members and £167.48 for members. A conference dinner ticket costs £149 and must be added separately.

The meeting is at Park Plaza Victoria, London, on 17–18 November 2026. BASEM advertises more than 400 attendees, 100 speakers and 20 exhibitors. The full timed agenda is not yet published, so the current programme records confirmed themes and topics only. Prize-winning postgraduate abstracts are published in BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine; the undergraduate first-prize research is also published there.
